Discover the iconic Bar Anita
The island of Ibiza is particularly attractive in part because it has managed to maintain its essence in emblematic places generation after generation. There are currently more than twenty legendary places that opened their doors more than 50 years ago and that are still intact today with their own essence and far from the modern world. At Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe Hotel we invite you to discover the iconic Bar Anita.
Bar Anita was founded in 1876 as a grocer’s shop and small bar, making it one of the oldest active businesses on the island of Ibiza. It was founded by Josep Noguera Rosselló and since then it has been passed down from generation to generation, although its big boom came in the 1960s with the arrival of the hippies, who mostly settled in the area of the village of San Carlos and the surrounding area. The hippies found in Bar Anita their main meeting point where they could socialise.
Today Bar Anita has the reputation of being the original hippie bar on the island of Ibiza and remains an excellent bar/restaurant for lunch, a quick snack or a drink at any time of the day, with good value for money. They offer tapas, mixed dishes and traditional Ibicencan dishes, as well as one of the best Hierbas Ibicencas on the island of Ibiza.
Bar Anita is a place of pilgrimage for locals and travellers alike. Thousands of people drive to the picturesque village of San Carlos to savour a glass of its famous and delicious herbal liqueur that the same family has been producing for a century following the traditional recipe.
It is a very busy and famous bar thanks to the cosmopolitan atmosphere that congregates on its small terrace on the roadside in front of the church. It also became very popular in the 1960s because it was one of the few places on the island of Ibiza that functioned as a post office. This is where the hippies’ money orders arrived, which were sent by their families from the United States and Europe.
Today Bar Anita is still in the hands of the same family, and although San Carlos has grown considerably, it is still the epicentre of the town thanks to its long history and its welcoming spirit that has always characterised it. Stay at Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe Hotel and discover this iconic bar just 8km from the hotel.
