Es Gerret, a traditional festival in Santa Eulalia

Although Ibiza is an island so exposed to tourism, we must highlight the efforts of the local people to keep their traditions intact, which is what makes the Ibiza island so authentic and full of life during the winter as well.

At Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe Hotel we immerse you in one of the most emblematic and traditional gastronomic festivals on the Ibiza island, which is held every year on the first Saturday of March in the village of Santa Eulalia. A festival that pays tribute to the traditional Ibizan cuisine and to one of the most typical and tasty fish of Ibiza and Formentera, Gerret, a fish similar to the sardine and which also has a great nutritional value.

Come and discover the Es Gerret festival

The festival where you will discover that cabbage, rice and Gerret form a delicious combination. A festival that fills the streets of Santa Eulalia with many tasty recipes of the Ibizan cuisine made with this nutritious fish, which is brought fresh to the marina of Santa Eulalia with Llaüts (typical wooden boat in the Balearic Islands) and transported by carriage directly to the festival.

More than two dozen of restaurants will be preparing their own traditional recipes and participating in two different competitions: the Gerret rice competition and the best tapa competition. The tasting dishes will be offered at a popular price to all visitors to the festival, so that they can get to know this fish and part of the delicious Ibizan cuisine, while enjoying the music and the great atmosphere in the streets of Santa Eulalia.

Gastronomy, music and traditional dances

Gastronomy means enjoyment, partying and gathering, which is why the Ibiza Fishermen’s Guild together with the Santa Eulalia Town Council organise this annual tribute to traditional Ibizan cuisine made with this tasty fish, Gerret, so that all visitors can get to know, maintain and enjoy Ibizan gastronomy and cuisine.

The festival begins with the performance of the traditional Ibicencan dance in the main street of the village, with its voluptuous dresses full of jewels. It will continue with live music performances throughout the day, marine and handicraft markets, photographic exhibitions and children’s workshops for the little ones. This event not only celebrates this much-loved fish in the local cuisine, but also highlights the culture and traditions of Ibiza.

It is definitely an event where both children and adults can enjoy, dance, entertain and eat. At Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe Hotel we invite you to discover the most authentic Ibiza, from its tasty cuisine to its traditional parties, a series of events that will make you feel the magic of the Ibiza island all year round.
